Leslie and Stephen...the DIY

So as a planner when we hear of a bride who wants to 'Do It Yourself' we almost have a cringe in our spirit. We of course never would let you know. But to be honest we aren’t always sure what you say you will do, will actually come about. That was really until Leslie came to us. She had so many ideas but already had them in the works and when they would be done by. It was music to my ears.

As much as Leslie is a creative, DIY bride, visionary, organized she new that she needed us. I remember the first time meeting her that she had all of her ideas in a folder, color swatches, plans and more. She was wise to choose some great vendors to work with as well.

So check out the details that we were capture from her wedding.

Courtney & Bill's Wedding

In May we spent a beautiful weekend with Courtney Seek and Bill Timony who where married on the beautiful lawn at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, FL. With the bridesmaids in black and Courtney in white it was a vision of elegance.

The reception, held upstairs in the Ponte Vedra Room, continued the vison adding a touch of green. Each table held centerpieces provided by Liz Stewart Floral Designs. With thirteen tables the centerpieces alternated between small bouquets and tall vases both containing gorgeous white and green floral arrangements. The cake designed by Classic Cakes was three tiers of delicious red velvet and cheesecake filling.
One of the highlights of the night was the Best Man’s speech. Bill’s best friend started off with reminiscent stories and jokes but ended by stripping down to his old wrestling uniform and challenging Bill right on the dance floor! It was quite the surprise but provided for a fun and spontaneous show. All 120 guests danced the night away with music provided by The Mystery Band. At the end of the night friends and family sent off the happy couple with a runway of sparklers bringing their big day to a fabulous end!

Not to leave anyone else out we had to pleasure of working with Carolyn Clarke Photography out of Ocala. She was a gem to work with.

We had so much fun at the Riddick-Hickman wedding last weekend! The orange and blue colors made this outdoor wedding at Bay Laurel so fun! I love how the bridesmaids are all holding personalized bouquets! The flowers were made by Floral Expressions, pomodoros lining the aisle were gorgeous!

The bride and groom were married in front of the arch. I love how you can see the waterfall! The orange and blue cake made by the Flour Pot Bakery was just beautiful!

Signature Drink for any Occasion

Yesterday we talked about the birthday drink I created last week. Today, Lindsey and I found a great website for you to create your own drink for any occasion. Simply click on the link and choose your color and type of drink you would like. Here's a great example for Halloween.

Basil Blood Orange Mojito

The classic with a bloody touch

2 parts Stirrings Blood Orange Martini Mixer
1 1/2 parts Myers Light Rum
4 fresh basil leaves
Garnish: Stirrings Blood Orange Rimmer
Slice of orange

Rim Collins glass with Blood Orange Rimmer. Muddle fresh basil leaves into the Collins glass. Top with ice add spirit and Blood Orange Mixer. Short shake and top with a slice of orange.

Birthday Signature drink

One fun thing to do for your event is to create a signature drink. For my birthday last Friday, all the ladies in the office had a fun little surprise birthday party planned for me. They brought food and one of my gifts was champagne. So I got the idea to create my own drink and I called it "Blue Birthday". So fun, and yummy! Next time you're planning an event, think about the colors you are using and your favorite type of drink to create your own signature drink. All your guests will love it and it creates a fun topic to talk about during your event. Enjoy!

I'm seeing PINK today! A`vie saw lots of pink at the Myrick-Jackson wedding. I love when pink is used in so many ways as a bold main color AND accent all in one. Thanks to Dan at Unforgettable Events, this was indeed a wedding to remember for this bride and groom. Looking through the photos you can see how pink was used so creative and elegantly.

House Of Hope Breakfast

I just wanted to let you know what an amazing time I had at the Solutions Bridal Expo a couple of weekends ago. The expo was fantastic! The show was extremely well-organized, the staff was pleasant and eager to help, and there were SO many vendors, which made me realize how many options are available to couples planning their wedding right here in Gainesville. Having VIP tickets was quite helpful because I had about an hour to talk to some of the vendors without the crowd. From the eyes of a new intern

Rebekah has been a wonderful intern for us at A`vie from the moment she came in for her interview. Read a few words from her as she experiences her first events with us.

"My first day as an intern for A'vie, I worked a wedding. I was helping at the ceremony organizing the bridal party and do all that I could to keep the weddings as traditional as possible. The bride and groom did not want to see each other before the weddings and so I was put on what I call “ Bride Watch 2009”. The ceremony was lovely! Everything fell into line as it was suppose to.

Before the ceremony was over, I ran over to the reception venue. My breath was taken away when I saw how beautiful the venue was. The decorating was great! As guests arrived, I would greet them and direct them to where the cocktails were being served. After the bride and groom arrived, the reception was in full swing. It was absolutely great! The food that was served was amazing! To add to the food, the caterers were so friendly! The band was outstanding! They really kept the guests entertained. The whole wedding was a great learning experience and I know the bride and groom were very pleased with A'vie's services!"

Happy 50th Anniversary to the Carlsons

Carlson's 50th Anniversary
We had the privilege of coordinating The Carlson 50th Anniversary party on August 8. It was a very special and unique event for many reasons. For starters, our client (daughter of the couple) lives in North Carolina and we did not get to meet her until one day before the event! A’vie was able to recommend vendors and her final choices included Plantation Hall at Haile for the venue, Celebrations Catering, The Plant Shoppe, Ms. Debbie’s Sugar Art, Eric Redmond as the pianist, Paul from Footstone Photography, and Professional Valet Parking Systems. As guests arrived cocktails and appetizers were served while the wedding video played on the projector screen. Yes, there was video footage of the wedding from 50 years ago! During dinner a slideshow with music played for guests- it was a huge hit! Then came the surprise…Father Tim was there to renew their wedding vows! A bouquet was brought to Mrs. Carlson and she joined her husband in front of all 85 guests to recite the vows they said 50 years ago. Then the couple danced to “Wind Beneath My Wings” which was beautifully performed by Eric. To follow suit of a wedding, the couple ceremoniously cut the beautiful three tiered cake. To honor this special couple and their huge accomplishment, the microphone was passed around to almost a dozen guests to give a toast! The beautiful flower arrangements were given by our client as gifts to several guests and vendors as well! It was a pleasure to be a part of this fantastic celebration of love and family. What is ALS?

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neuromuscular disease that attacks motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Early symptoms include muscle weakness or stiffness. As the disease progresses, the body's muscles continue to weaken, which ultimately leads to total paralysis including the ability to speak, swallow or breathe.

Although writings describing ALS date back as far as 1869. New York Yankee great Lou Gehrig brought attention to the disease in 1939 when he retired from baseball after beinig diagnosed. He died two years later.

After my diagnosis of Lou Gherig's Disease in early 2008, my family, friends and colleagues rallied around me by providing their love, support and generosity beyond measure. From this outpouring came the formation of the charity that bears my name, yet will directly impact the lives of others in Gainesville and North Central Florida who are diagnosed with this horrific disease.

Hunter and Brittany's Happy Wedding Day

What a joy this couple was to work with! There was not a meeting in the planning process or the weekend of their wedding that I did not see a smile on Brittany and Hunters faces. The happiness of this couple was shown in so many things throughout their event!

One of the songs the Bride and Groom requested to be played by Eric Redmond on piano during their ceremony was “All of My Love” by Led Zeppelin. I was very excited to hear this song on piano. What a great job Eric did! The couple loved it and Eric said he would like to use it for other couples now too.

Not only did the couple have a great time, but the bridesmaids and groomsmen were so helpful along the way. The Maid of honor did all of the girls’ hair the morning of the wedding as she is a hair stylist in North Carolina, and the bride had a friend who is a professional make-up artist who made all the girls look so beautiful. Every time I turned around there was someone helping. See the joy in all of their faces when you view the photos by Rob Witzel Photography below.

Have you every thought about having Chair Covers at your next event. Well you should.

10 things you should know about ordering Chair Covers

1. Chair covers will impact the room more then any other décor item you can think to bring in for your event.

2. There are different size chairs out there. Make sure that you know the measurement of your chairs (widest part of the seat from left to right & overall height of the chair)

3. There are different size tables; know the sizes of your tables.

4. Do not be afraid of color

5. Pick linens / chair covers that reflect your personality

Meet Darla...

If you haven't taken the time to read up on our website then you haven't seen Darla's picture. Although Darla has been with A`vie since March of '08 we haven't been able to keep her in one place to get her picture taken. She is a very busy woman which is something that drew me to her.

As most of you know me I have my hand in just about everything. I love to be involved and Darla is very much the same way. For she is always doing something from planning some one's wedding to us, to full time student, translating a book into Spanish and even out in the field training horses. You name it she will, can and probably has done it.

Take a moment and read about Darla and how she has the experience it takes to be apart of the A`vie Team.

Darla Huntley began her work with A’vie Weddings and Events in March of 2008. As an Associate Coordinator, Darla has worked on a variety of events in a variety of locations including Golden Ocala, Plantation Hall at Haile, The Thomas Center in Gainesville, The Butterfly Museum at UF and Bay Laurel in Micanopy. Events are always a delight because each and every one is unique just as each couple is unique, and Darla’s commitment to make each couple’s special day just as they dreamed it means she will do whatever it takes to make it so.

Darla brings to the A’vie family a variety of hands on experience which includes 14 years in the restaurant/customer service industry and assisting with floral design. Her work in the events industry began at a prime steakhouse in Fayetteville, Georgia where she decided to add a few special touches to events held in their extremely under-booked banquet area. What started out with one or two banquets per week that were plain and far from exceptional quickly turned into a full-blown events planning job in a facility that was almost always booked solid. Her planning and coordination experience includes weddings, rehearsal dinners, business and pharmaceutical meetings, birthday and holiday parties.

Darla and her husband were married in 2007 in Gainesville at Kanapaha Botanical Gardens. She recently went back to college at UF in pursuit of her bachelor’s degree in Spanish and plans to put this to use as a translator. Darla also owns seven horses and competes in barrel racing.

A welcome bag or basket for that matter is one of the first impressions that your out of town guest are going to have of your wedding. Why not wow them with something they were not expecting, after all they have traveled a long way in your honor. When you have guests traveling to your wedding - whether it's a destination wedding or not you may want to leave a bag filled with a few treats as well as information on the weekend's activities: rehearsal dinner, post-wedding brunch, scheduled activities, local restaurants, etcIf you're having a destination wedding, creating a bag with some local treats and items that guests can use while they're there would be a great way to introduce them to a place that is new to everyone. A beach wedding: Flip-flops, sunscreen, towel. European wedding: Foreign language dictionary, local sightseeing guide with popular tourist attractions. If you're getting married in your hometown you can include some local treats - popular food known to the area. A map leading to places that you and your soon to husband find significant to your relationship would be a great personal touch. Remember food and sports memorabilia always goes over well.Talk to the hotel where everyone is staying about dropping off the guest room gifts a day or so before your guests begin arriving so that they can receive an their bag or basket when they check in or ask the hotel to have the bags placed in each guests room prior to their arrival, or delivered soon after.

Introducing Noelle to A`vie

Noelle has been such as blessing to A`vie and myself. A dear officiant, Donny Dillion introduced me to Noelle several months ago. She just did her first event this past Saturday night and is working on a few more in the upcoming months.

Meet Noelle...

Noelle Raimondo is the latest addition to A’vie Weddings and Events. Although she joined our team in May 2009, she has a variety of event experience behind her dating back to 2003. Her curiosity about event planning stemmed from planning her prom as senior class president. While working closely with a hotel event planner she witnessed a fabulous event for 600 people become a huge success. She also attended her first large wedding that year, which became the subject of her AP composition thesis paper: The Commercialization of Weddings. She then moved from Buffalo, NY to attend the University of Florida.
While gaining a plethora of knowledge through her Event Management classes, she also became involved with the Health and Human Performance College. As President of Rho Phi Lambda, a departmental honor society, she organized events, meetings and community activities for members. As the Events Intern with the HHP Communications Department, she planned a variety of charity and alumni events including basketball and volleyball tournaments, trivia nights, bingo nights, career fairs, and an alumni barbeque. In 2007 she graduated with her Event Management degree and began working weddings as a volunteer with local wedding planners and on her own. She has taken a nationally accredited Wedding Certification Course and is apprenticing with local vendors to earn her certification.
Her Italian heritage and large family has helped her understand the importance of sharing special moments with the ones you love and that even get-togethers can be an event that needs planning! She is blessed to have a loving Christian family and a fantastic church family at UCCC. She has a wide range of hobbies and loves taking classes to learn new ones like playing guitar and learning Spanish. As a sports fanatic, Noelle loves playing volleyball, basketball, softball, tennis, golf…pretty much everything! She also enjoys watching sports and traveling to watch her favorite teams. She enjoys volunteering in the community, and her most recent service project was a mission trip to Honduras.
Noelle enjoys taking her clients’ vision and watching it become a reality! Seeing the smiles on the faces of brides or attendants of a charity event is her favorite part of the job. She’ll do whatever it takes to make your event a huge success, whether it is finding the perfect vendors to fit your needs or offering unique ideas to suit your budget. She understands that your event is unique from any other, and that you want it to be perfect. Her expertise, experience and organization will give you peace of mind throughout the planning process and the day of your event.

I typically hear from brides and groom's after a bridal show that it was overwhelming and they weren't prepared for all that they needed to encounter. I know that our brides and grooms we start telling them to go in with a game plan. Make a list of what vendors they are still looking for. Prior to attending the bridal show they go on to their web site and check their work out. After that they now compile a short list of who they need to check out. I ask that they engage good conversation with the vendors but to keep it short because of the time that they have in general.
So now that you have processed all of this then I want to share some pictures the Florida Bridal Expo in January at the University of Florida Hilton looked like. We know that as shows come and go we want you to be prepared. I hope these pictures will help you prepare as we head into the bridal shows in September.

ViVA Event with Hospice

As you know we are doing more and more Corporate and Non Profit Events. I get so excited when they choose to use our services. One that is very dear to my heart that I have been wanting to get involved with is Hospice. They took care of my grandmother before she past away. We had the best male nurse ever. Although my grandfather wasn't too sure but this nurse proved himself to be so caring and empathic. To do it all over again we wouldn't change a thing. We loved all of the attention and care that Hospice gave us.

We are super excited to announce that we are going to help plan 2010 ViVA's Event. We are just getting ready to put the details and the theme together on the 11th of September. I can't wait to share all the details.

I ran into one of my past clients in the mall over the weekend and was able to see their little girl with the cutest black and white bow. Amy Keene has been working with A`vie Weddings and Events since it’s opening in 2004. Amy began as an Associate Coordinator in addition to Angela’s personal assistant. Although she moved away for a little while, she has always felt like “A`vie family” and has been contracted for various events. Amy’s heart for events and planning started before working with weddings as she learned how to lead in ministry teams and community events. She was a Creative Arts team leader for three years in addition to working with Angela in the children’s ministry.

She began working in the wedding industry with a catering and events company where she first learned how all the details of an event come together. Her greatest joy of working with a couple on their wedding day is to see the happiness on their faces in the lifelong choice they make as all the details of their day come together to make it so special. Amy has experience working with large and small weddings and events of all kinds. Her past events include ‘Celebrating our Seasons’ with Interfaith Hospitality Network, local weddings, Bridal Expos, directing ministry programs including writing plays and directing special programs, and is currently on the committee for Dwight’s Fight Foundation.
Amy and her husband were married in Gainesville and enjoy living in a supportive community with great people and friends around. They enjoy spending time with family and friends and taking hikes with their dog Annie. As High School sweethearts, they grew up in town and later moved away for college. After realizing God’s plan for their life, they were married at Kanapaha Gardens among family and friends in a beautiful outside garden setting. It was while Amy was planning her own wedding, along with her coordinator, when she realized what special time is it to help others to enjoy the planning process for their wedding as it is such a joyous time to remember without having the stress and knowing what a fabulous day it will be. Amy works with A`vie as an Associate Coordinator and the Plantation Hall at Haile Manager. She is looking forward to working with you to help make your special day memorable.

One of the first major tasks after an engagement is to pick the date of your wedding. It cannot be too soon since you will need to allow ample time for planning, therefore many weddings are set for anywhere from 9 months to two years later. It is customary to send out invitations approximately two months before the wedding but for some this can be too short of notice, especially in the case of destination weddings or those scheduled over holiday weekends. Well my future bride-to-be’s, that is where save the dates come in! These handy little pre-invitations, that have only been introduced in the past decade, are becoming more and more popular in the wedding world as a way to let future guests know about your engagement as well as what weekend they should mark off their calendars. They started out simple, just a card with the date, but couple’s are becoming even more creative with so many innovative ideas! Looking through past samples I have seen magnets, picture slideshows, videos, individual treats, buttons, stickers, cards printed on wood or plastic, theme-related props, and just about anything else you could imagine! Some important things to remember with these save the dates is that they should go out no more than a year before your date, and of course everyone who receives one should be followed by an invitation!

A welcome bag or basket for that matter is one of the first impressions that your out of town guest are going to have of your wedding. Why not wow them with something they were not expecting, after all they have traveled a long way in your honor. When you have guests traveling to your wedding - whether it's a destination wedding or not you may want to leave a bag filled with a few treats as well as information on the weekend's activities: rehearsal dinner, post-wedding brunch, scheduled activities, local restaurants, etc. If you're having a destination wedding, creating a bag with some local treats and items that guests can use while they're there would be a great way to introduce them to a place that is new to everyone. A beach wedding: Flip-flops, sunscreen, towel. European wedding: Foreign language dictionary, local sightseeing guide with popular tourist attractions. If you're getting married in your hometown you can include some local treats - popular food known to the area. Getting married is one of those things you dream of from the first moment you lay eyes on a wedding dress. I know from personal experience that the time leading up to your big day is going to fly bye. And yes you will always remember how you felt that day and what song you first danced to as husband and wife, but when you sitting around on your 20th wedding anniversary the one thing that you will have is you wedding pictures! With that being said I would like to Introduce Jaime from JLS photography! She is going to be shooting my wedding in August and I cannot express what a joy she has been. Not only she super funny and down to earth, she always wants feedback and welcomes any and all suggestions I might have. It took little time to warm up to her during our engagement session at Gator Stadium, and braved she even agreed to brave the 98 degree heat index while continuing the shoot in downtown Alachua. Perhaps the best thing about her is the fact that she happily responds to my “weekly question” emails that are filled with random things from lighting to tons of examples of what pictures I want on my big day (at this point I bet our folder is at capacity!). Thank you Jaime for all that you do and I cannot wait to have you there on our wedding day!

Oh, how I love our clients

On a very serious note. I am being very serious. I really do love what I do. I believe that each and everyone of our clients would 100% agree with you. When it comes down to your day. I will do what it takes to make everything come together the way you want and envisioned it to be. Therefore, when it rained on Chris and Delia's wedding my heart just broke for them. I knew I couldn't control it but I knew that we had to double time it in all cases and protect, protect and protect!!!!

Even mopping the dance floor so Chris and Delia can have their first dance.

So if we weren't covering things up from a leaking tent for the caterers and pull things that were outside and covering up the dance floor that was outside out from the tent. We never ran so much, moved so quickly and teamed up.

Look at Leah from Celebration's go. The rain was back 'ON' and there we all ran into action again.

I have lots more to blog about this wedding from fantastic beforehand pictures to stunning afterwards. I had the pleasure of working with Rob Witzel Photography. He and his wife, Marian had a lot to put up with due to the rain and protecting their equipment along with preparing for what we could and couldn't do for pictures. Now we are all saying, 'The joys of the industry we work in'.

So if you are wondering where I am. I can't always get enough of my wonderful clients I even have to go for the younger ones. (Just kidding.) This week she is the Vacation Bible School Director at The Family Church. So if I am a little delayed please understand. As a mom of four I love to be very involved in all that they do. Therefore, when having big productions I love to be the leader hence I am directing Vacation Bible School.

If you know of people who have kids and would like to have them come please have them come. It is at The Family Church 2022 SW 122nd Street, Gainesville from 9am-12pm, Monday - Friday. Here is a little preview of what we are doing.

Dress Shopping at Solutions

I had forgotten how much fun going with a bride AND groom dress shopping can be. Last night one of my near and dear clients had an appointment at Solutions Bridal here in Gainesville. We went in knowing whatever we could find that we would have to adjust, cut off, pull from one type of dress to another and another.

The ladies at Solutions just took care of us from the very beginning of me contacting them about this request to last nights appointment. Tali and Brittney were on top of things from getting back ground information before we came to making sure the bride did her homework to our great welcoming into the store, asking more questions and getting a more clear picture of what she wanted. So after trying them on and having some fun we finally found 'THE DRESS'. What a celebration that took place that ended with the BIG finale of CHAMPAGNE!!! You heard right. After looking through dresses and trying them on the bride found one. And the ladies of Solutions Bridal broke out the Champagne. What a nice touch and made our clients right at home.

- Be sure to ask your venue if you can purchase your own alcohol, rather than purchasing it through them.

Celebrating Our Seasons Event in May 2009

“There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven.” -- Ecclesiastes 3:1
Celebrating Our Seasons was a seminar for women of all ages and all faiths. It primarily focused of the smooth transition through each phase of life through preparation and faith. The seminar included performances by Christian musician Christy Nockels, keystone speaker Pam Tebow, and a variety of breakout sessions that covered topics from parenting to personal wellness.
The revenue collected from the seminar fee and the silent auction benefited the Interfaith Hospitality Network. IHN is a charity that works to provide housing, food and transportation to homeless families. It also helps these families find jobs, medical care, childcare, schooling and affordable housing.
The presence of Pam Tebow did create a great deal of attention to the seminar. Her experience as a mother and a “home school pioneer” truly prepared her to talk to women about being “A Mom for All Seasons.” Her spiritual insight re-inspired women to welcome the God into their parenting and personal life. Many women expressed their admiration of her teachings and success as a parent. Many also look forward to her up incoming book of parenting.

White Winter Décor Inspiration Board

Colors: White and Silver
Theme: Glittering Snow
This idea board was created for a bride who wanted a winter theme without being “Christmas-y.” I wanted to give her the feel of fresh fallen snow in the morning sun. The use of tree branches as centerpieces seemed to appropriately capture the bareness of winter. I did, however, encounter the possibility of creating an overly rigid focus. I softened the branches by combining the glittering effect of reflective disks and dangling crystals. This added to the idea of melting snow at sunrise. To finalize the winter motif, I would like to add small birds nestling together in the branches. This incorporates the hope and warmth that the coming spring will provide.
On the table I wanted to sprinkle fake snow bits and add candles of different widths and heights for lightings. I the board you will see a candle that has been rolled in glitter. I thought it really brought the theme together. I loved the idea of throwing in a snow globe with a picture slot as a table number!
As for favors, I feel that the bride and groom can find just about anything in white or wrapped in silver paper for their guests. As an added detail, one could even use snow flake stickers to truly tie in the theme.

A picture perfect day:

Romantic is definitely the right word to describe Dustin and Kaylen’s May wedding. From the soft peonies to the beautiful custom arch that stood above them every detail seemed as if you picked it straight out of your favorite picture book. From the second I met Kaylen you could tell she was every bit the sweet southern girl that Dustin made her out to be. Despite the 80% chance of rain that cast a shadow over the all the pre-wedding set up activities the staff at Golden Ocala and Unforgettable events never faulted in coming up with a backup plan. To all of our delight (especially Kaylen), the rain held out just long enough for the happy couple to tie the knot in front of family and friends surrounded by the beautiful scenery that is Golden Ocala. Sheltered by the elegance of the banquet hall and outer veranda (which hosted the much appreciated cocktail hour) the guests partied the night away in style. If their wedding day has any indication on the rest of their lives, this couple is sure to live happily ever after!

So after working 14 hours at an event we even take time to laugh and recap the wedding to see how things could have been done a little bit differently. One thing that we at A`vie do before an event is to have a briefing meeting to help all staff know exactly the details of the wedding. Then after an event we do a debriefing to recap it and make sure we talk about some things we could adjust for the next event. It is terrific for all of us and our future clients.

Every now and then there comes along a really great event that is supporting a great cause. The 2009 Courage Walk supporting Dwight’s Fight Against ALS is among them! This family-friendly 5K walk presented on behalf of the Gainesville Community Foundation will be held on Saturday September 12th, 9AM-1PM at Haile Plantation Village Center and you do not want to miss out!
Getting involved is so easy! Both individuals and teams can come together in order to raise money for gift tote bags given to ALS patients and their families upon diagnosis.
You may ask what is ALS? Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ASL) is a progressive neuromuscular disease that attacks motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. As this disease progresses symptoms include weak muscles leading to paralysis and inability to breathe.
With your willingness and participation in this walk we can offer patients and families much needed support and supplies.

Becky & Dale Tie the Knot

On June 13, 2009 Becky Cauthen and Dale Hall were married in a beautiful ceremony at University Auditorium located on the University of Florida Campus. If you have never been to University Auditorium you should know that it is a gorgeous, grand, Cathedral-like setting and the absolute perfect atmosphere for a wedding. Here are a few gorgeous shots taken there, all pictures taken by Powers Photography.

The following are some other great pictures that were captured while Becky was getting ready as well as some taken of the couple before the ceremony! I just love the background window!!

After the ceremony and between the raindrops Becky, Dale, and the wedding party in tow were able to stop by the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to take some great pictures that show their love for the Gators!

The reception, held at the UF Hilton, was decked out in pinks, purples, and blues and showcased Becky’s favorite, ribbons!! Each of the 24 tables was dressed with white linens and interlacing ribbons handcrafted by the Bride! In the center were tall vases filled with water and topped with stunning floral arrangements provided by Petal Pusher in Ocala. The dance floor was found underneath hundreds of ribbons hanging from the ceiling creating a fun setting for the guests to dance the night away with music provided by Mike Collins and Darrin Legree. The cake was made from four square tiers that were wrapped in, you guessed it, more ribbon!
Although it was a large wedding it was the small details that made it unique such as the candy bar that coordinated with their colors, the Photo Booth where guests could strike a pose, and the personalized pictures used as table numbers!

We at A’vie had a blast spending the day with Becky and Dale and we wish them the best for their new future together!

Tuxedo's 101

When considering a tuxedo, one should be anything but a fad. Fads should not be allowed to delve into the wonders of the tux but the tux should be left to the professionals like Pierce Brosnan, George Clooney or Clark Gable. Never too flashy or ostentatious but simple and timelessly elegant.
Although the black tux oozes elegance, one may try the midnight blue tuxedo instead because it appears blacker than black to the eye and in photographs. But be careful, do not confuse the midnight blue with the navy because they are two very different things.
Another example of a classic piece of the tux is the waist coat. To many it may be too formal but, in my opinion, it is the topping on an already delicious cake.
Men need to realize that they are not going to their high school prom where they can wear obnoxiously bright colors and feel like they are making a “statement.” A wedding tuxedo is not a novelty but a statement that defines the rest of your life.
So gentlemen, I am asking nicely that you hold up the high standards that Brosnan, Clooney, or Gable set out and make your woman proud when she is coming down the aisle to see such a put together and timeless man.

Erik and Rebecca's Wedding

After a conservative ceremony and an elegant list of music at the reception, no one could see what was coming next. After the bride threw the toss bouquet, it was finally time for the garter to come off. It was not yet the wedding night but the groom got on all fours and was headed to the bride. Then, Super Mario music began to play and the groom looked thoroughly confused. He walked over to the DJ and … came out with a super Mario hat on! Once again, he got on all fours and climbed under the layers and layers of the bride’s gown. With a little bit of stumbling, he comes out holding what could only be a grandmother’s underpants! He shook his head ‘no’ and threw them back and climbed in again. After a little while under there, he pulls out a pair of handcuffs! The bride turned bright red and hid her face only for the groom to go back under. The next time he comes out, he gets caught by a mousetrap! The groom looks somewhat scared but goes in for the final time and comes out with the beloved Super Mario garter.
With such a great idea, plenty of grooms should think about surprising their bride with some items they never thought they were hiding under their dress!

What do you do when you get a call?

Well after I finished up a wedding this past weekend and I was excited that it was still early in our world, 9pm and I was heading home. As I was calling home and getting my thoughts in mind of what I needed to do there my cell phone rang. It was one of the Groomsmen from the wedding. I thought that was very strange to call me now. You haven't called me all weekend but you call me now.

The reason for his call was he and four of the groomsmen where traveling together towards I-75 and they ran out of gas. Sure enough. I just couldn't believe it. I had to laugh and think this is just a 'Woman thing' but not any more.

So even if you think you are clear for the evening things can quickly change. So off I went to the Advanced Auto Store in Alachua and purchased a gas can and then off to the nearest gas station. So as I called to tell them I was heading back to find them if they could please let me know where they were at. Sure if they only knew because all they could see is street light and a building across the street but no name. After searching for them up and down a stretch of highway of 6 miles I found them. Only taking me 15 minutes...

We got their tank filled up and off they went running to the nearest gas station. So who says your night can't end with a little more fun than you expected. So guys remember to look at your gauge when the bell says you are almost out. Thanks for some laugher at the end of the night (Denver, Joshua, Fay, Louis, and Bryce).

Sometimes we get to have a little bit of fun before the event starts. By fun is we get to find some extra decor and we can add it around the reception or the ceremony even stop and pose for a picture together.

We came a cross a few things that we could use from the ceremony inside the reception hall before we opened the doors therefore we reused it. So here I am hanging them from the lights.

Courtney and Bill's Wedding at TPC in Ponte Vedra

Their wedding exuberated modern elegance in every detail chosen for their special day while still letting their own personalities shine through. The substitution of a groom’s cake with rhubarb pie, donations in memory of Courtney’s sister in lieu of favors for the guests, and riding away at the end of the night in a golf cart all portrayed their own unique style. Standing alone as the best moment of the day was during the sand ceremony when Courtney poured her sand faster than Bill’s and exclaimed “I beat you”. By staying faithful to their personas, this couple made this chic day their own. Here are some of my favorite photos that I would like to share...

Keri and Cole's Wedding was beautiful and simple but a WIN for all

Keri and Cole were married June 14th at the Baughman Center. Family and friends celebrated during the reception at Plantation Hall at Haile following the ceremony. Here is Angela helping the beautiful bride, Keri, get ready!

The Plant Shoppe brightened up the room with these stunning blue hydrangeas and roses!

Keri and Cole added their own style by placing this picture of them on their guestbook table. In the middle is a picture of Keri and Cole, and above and below is each of their parents on their wedding day!

Wayne’s World provided the musical entertainment and the photographer Caroline Johnson and videographer Mike, from Videotronics, were there to capture every moment! Catering by Anne provided delicious southern-style food, and Ms. Debbie’s Sugar Art made this beautiful cake!

We had so much fun! Thanks Keri and Cole for letting us be a part of your special day!
